Rochester Chapter Scholarship Information

Hearing Loss Association of America Rochester Chapter ,Inc. (HLAA Rochester) established a $500 scholarship in 1996, for Greater Rochester area high school seniors with hearing loss. Students are required to pursue a degree from a college, vocational training or other post secondary school. The Scholarships are made possible thanks to the generosity the late  J. Stuart and Phyllis MacDonald. The fund established a $500 scholarship beginning in 1996. In 2006 the award was doubled to $1,000.
Since the initial award was presented in 1996, our chapter has proudly given $114,500 to 130 students!

Each year at our Annual Dinner in May, the Scholarship Committee awards $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors with hearing loss who are planning on pursuing post-secondary education or vocational training. We gratefully acknowledge the original source of funds supporting these scholarships--the J. Stuart and Phyllis I. MacDonald Fund--as well as gifts and donations through our Rochester chapter. Without such funding, the scholarship program would not exist. Since the initial award was presented in 1996, our chapter has proudly given $114,500 to 130 students!

This year, our chapter awarded scholarships to seven graduating students who met the qualifications set forth in the scholarship application. They are:

Jeffery(JT) Flood (Irondequoit), Courtney Gentzke  (RSD),Alyssa Kingston(Geneseo) Neriyah McPherson (RSD)  Megan Minkel (Attica)  Diane Ward (RSD)  Hunter Williams (RSD)

Our HLAA Rochester Chapter Congratulates you on your hard work and wishes you all a bright and successful future!

Our Scholarship Committee works hard to promote our Scholarship program and review the applications.  We all appreciate the hard work of the committee members:
Mary Chizuk, Barb Law, Madge Ludwig, Gaelen McCormick, Doug and Nancy Meyer, and Sue Miller. We look forward to next year.
